Ginger Navickas, director of the YWCA's Daybreak program, and Police Chief Gary Gemme received an Innovations Award recently at a statehouse ceremony attended by the state attorney general and Governor Deval Patrick.

The Worcester Intervention Network received the highest honor offered by the Massachusetts Office for Victim Assistance Board. The honor was made in recognition of National Victim Rights Week.

The Worcester Intervention Network is a collaboration of police, prosecutors and victim advocates that tries to help victims of domestic violence. Daybreak advocates are stationed at the police station and work directly with the police domestic violence unit. "Our advocates follow up on every police involved incidents of domestic violence in the city."

"The WIN program is a pro-active approach to responding to domestic violence and gives victim advocates the opportunity to intervene earlier in the cycle of violence by providing information , support, advocacy and referral to victims and families," she added.
